Itinerary Overview
This is a superb 9-day (8 night) flying safari itinerary in Kenya. This itinerary captures the essence of Nairobi, Samburu National Park and Masai Mara Game Reserve.
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi (NBO). Transfer to your lodge on the border of Nairobi National Park.
Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city with some fascinating attractions: The National Museum, Karen Blixen Museum and most notably just 20 minutes from the city center, wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve, Nairobi National Park. Time permitting, you might pay a visit to the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Giraffe Center run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, and/or a game drive in or hiking in Kitengela conservative area. You can also shop for arts and crafts.
Transfer to Wilson Airport, Nairobi. Take a scheduled flight from Wilson Airport to Oryx Airstrip, Samburu.
Transfer to Saruni Samburu.
Samburu is the only lodge in Kalama Conservancy, bordering Samburu National Reserve, with over 200,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness teeming with wildlife to exclusively explore. Guided by Samburu warriors passionate about their land and culture, you learn first-hand about their fascinating customs and gain ancient, local knowledge about the land and animals. This is a truly authentic safari experience.
You will spend your days enjoying guided game drives by day or after dark, bush walks, birding, bush breakfasts, picnic lunches and dinners under the stars, observing the wildlife from the photographic hide. You may also arrange visits to the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and a local village and community, or opt for a day excursion up Mount Ololokwe, the ‘Sacred Mountain’.
Transfer to Oryx Airstrip Samburu. Take a scheduled flight from Oryx Airstrip Samburu to Ngerende Airstrip, Mara North Conservancy. Transfer from Ngerende Airstrip to Saruni Mara in the Mara North Conservancy.
Situated in southwest Kenya, the Mara North Conservancy is a beautiful private wilderness area spanning more than 30,000 hectares. It is home to a spectacular array of plants, reptiles, birds and mammals, including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and large concentrations of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and other migratory wildlife.
Your experience in the Mara North Conservancy will include guided game drives by day or after dark, bush walks, birding, and a drive to Kilileoni, the highest peak in the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. You may also arrange a hot air balloon flight (additional cost) or visit to the local village market. Leopard Gorge, in the heart of the conservancy, is famous as the setting of countless BBC Big Cat Diaries and National Geographic documentaries. Neighboring the well-known Maasai Mara National Reserve, this conservancy is vital for sustaining the famous Serengeti wildebeest migrations as well as the highly threatened African wild dog and black rhino.
Transfer to Ngerende Airstrip, Mara North Conservancy. Take a scheduled flight from Ngerende Airstrip to Wilson Airport, Nairobi. Transfer from Wilson Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).
