Itinerary Overview
This is a 10-day (9 night) privately guided safari itinerary in Tanzania, covering the Ngorongoro Crater and the majestic Serengeti, and ending on the beach in Zanzibar.
Arriver Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Transfer to Lake Duluti Lodge.
Lake Duluti Lodge is set amongst the coffee farm and natural plants, trees and bushes at the foot of the scenic Mt. Meru. Time permitting, you will go on an informative ‘Coffee Tour’, weaving in and out of the evergreen coffee trees. The coffee guide will explain how the bean is nurtured, harvested, dried and finally roasted to produce a myriad of different blends that sate the taste of the most ardent of coffee connoisseurs.
Transfer to Arusha Airport. Take a scheduled flight to Lake Manyara Airstrip. Transfer to Neptune Ngorongoro Lodge.
En route to Ngorongoro Crater you pass through the town of Karatu in the green hills of Tanzania’s northern highlands. Presided over by the towering Ol Deani Volcano, this small, colorful town serves as a popular overnight stop for visitors exploring the area’s many game parks. The town offers a variety of activities including browsing the bustling marketplace, sampling beer at a local brewery or visiting a traditional Iraqw homestead.
This morning you will descend to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and sometimes called the “Eighth Wonder of The World.” It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to the highest density of big game in Africa. It’s 100 square miles create a natural sanctuary for over 25,000 animals, including the black rhino.
Transfer to Lake Manyara Airstrip. Scheduled flight to Kogatende Airstrip. Transfer to Serengeti Bushtops Luxury Camp.
Time permitting, you will enjoy a game drive en route to your camp in the Kogatende region of Ngorongoro to Serengeti National Park. The Northern Serengeti is punctuated by outcroppings known as kopjes, the result of ancient volcanic activity. They provide a microhabitat or mini ecosystem for a range of vegetation and wildlife such as hyrax, mongoose and porcupines, as well as perfect cover for big cats to shelter and raise their cubs.
Your days will be spent exploring the teeming wildlife the Serengeti. Not far from your camp, all kinds of wildlife can be seen along the banks of the Mara River and visitors might encounter the spectacle of over a million wildebeest and zebra migrating north to the Masai Mara, or upon return, on their way to the southern plains. Hot Air Ballooning can also be arranged.
Transfer to Kogatende Airstrip. Scheduled flight to Zanzibar Airport. Transfer to Chuini Zanzibar Beach Lodge.
The lodge is set on the west coast of Unguja just 8 miles from Stone Town. Unguja, also known as Zanzibar Island, is the main island in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar. The surrounding warm waters are home to mesmerizing marine life and untouched reefs, and Chuini has access to some of the most stunning diving spots near to the island.
One of the many highlights on the island is a boat trip to a secret sandbank in the Indian Ocean to go snorkeling and scuba diving among breath-taking, untouched reefs. Daily sunset cruises along the verdant west coast of Zanzibar as well as visits to Prison Island and Grave and Snake Island are also offered.
Stone Town, part of Zanzibar City, is an old trade center, with mosques and winding lanes. The 1883 House of Wonders is a former sultan’s palace with a clock tower. The Old Fort now houses a cultural center and a stone amphitheater.
